Do you see that doll upon the shelf?
How lifelike she looks sitting there all by herself?
See the way her hair falls with each wavy tress
See the way sun, the wind, play in the folds of her dress
The apples of her cheeks look kissed by a rose
She’s lost deep in thought, hiding all that she knows
Made of the smoothest white porcelain skin
Quietly concealing the poor girl within
She seems just a doll, until you realize
There’s something burning, yearning in her glassy, brown eyes
As subtle as the portrait of Mona Lisa’s smile
Curious and faint, but still there all the while
And there she is and will continue to be
Until the girl inside is released, her soul set free
Just a porcelain doll sitting high on a shelf
Waiting, watching, enduring a life all by herself
